![]() ![]() And I have also concluded that this is not due to power supply, as I have connected a powered USB hub and it still happened. Does that information make any difference? It's just a weird occurrence, that I can stream a movie on Plex just fine and then suddenly the disk unmounts at a completely random moment. I also remember that when setting up the RPi in the first place, I ran a command (according to the tutorial) to make sure that I didn't have to manually mount the disk every time. in the middle of streaming a movie), a reboot of the RPi mounts the drive automatically. In fact, when the disconnection occurs (e.g. I say this, because I saw in the comments that the automount is being called on boot, but there is no boot as RPi is always booted. What command to I run once I've logged in the RPi with Putty? Or do I just copy the code and paste in the terminal?įurther, I may have omitted to mentioned that the RPi is always running 24/7. However, this elevated performance can include increased levels of noise versus standard drives. Enterprise class HDDs are designed to provide higher performance and reliability. Thanks all for the responses! First things first: I am not exactly sure how to implement the codes proposed. If an external HDD has its own power supply, you might hear a slight humming coming from the power supply’s, especially if the power supply is a bit older. I purchased a powered USB hub, connecting in the middle between the RPi and external disk (and of course to the power outlet), but the disconnection still happens. I have looked online and read everywhere that this is mostly due to power supply. And then I guess it's waiting until the external disk disconnects again (so that I have to repeat the update/upgrade and reboot process). The RPi reboots and and after reboot the Plex content is where it should be and Plex streaming is fine. Then I run update and upgrade commands (sudo apt-get update / sudo apt-get upgrade). I open Putty and connect with the Raspberry Pi, which works fine. Then I check my PC and I cannot reach my network drives. I am streaming Plex on my TV and all of a sudden Plex tells me that it cannot reach the file any more or that the file is currently unavailable (the exact wording I don't remember). The problem is following that actually occurred only a couple of months ago. (I'm not sure if this information is sufficient, but should more info be needed, please let me know). Using Samba to map network drives to my PC for easy file transfer. Raspberry Pi 4 4GB running Raspbian Lite What is happening is that usb3.0 has some power saving mode that lets the hard drive power down. So any help will be very much appreciated. geofelt I recently discovered this problem too. I did some online searches with my problem, but couldn't find any solution. Thanks in advance for time spent helping me.I am rather new to the Raspberry Pi community and am only using by Pi for around a year now. I mention it, because it could be correlated or just coincidence.Īny information I can provide to help track down if it is a firmware problem, configuration problem, connection problem or user error in some way? I've included the relevate date/time for the syslog.txt at the time of the issue. Only since then have I had this problem maybe once or twice a month. SNB helped me with a different issue and it was recommended to consider ext format. The first few months, the HD was formatted FAT and I never had an issue. All will be fixed when I reboot the router and HD, but my wife doesn't like being interrupted when that's what I have to do. I don't think I'm overly connected to it, but have no real way of tracking what has happened. ![]() It generally only happens when I'm downloading a large file. Over the past few months, I have found that occasionally, my USB HD spontaneously disconnects and is unmounted by the Asus. Working on the whole for at least a year. I use the router as a minor file server with the USB HD, and generally don't have issue ever. I use a USB external Seagate HD, formatted in ext3 format. ![]()
